Where do I begin with this one?!?! Robin and I became friends earlier this year, and I’m SO blessed by her! We are also in the same small group at church, and when she asked me to be her wedding photographer I could not have been more happy! In previous conversations, she had shared with our small group how the Lord crafted her love story – and it’s such a good one, friends!!
I heard so many wonderful things about Abraham for months, and to FINALLY meet him at their engagement session last week was the BEST! Seeing the two of them together, in person was incredibly special for me! All of those poses you see above and below? Well – that was ALL THEM! I’d suggest something but then they would do it a million times better!
You’ll be seeing so much more of these two because they are getting married next week! Woohoo!
Robin and Abraham – I cannot wait for your wedding day! It’s going to be such a celebration of you two and what the Lord has done in your lives!
As Told by the Bride-to-Be
How They Met
“I prayed for my future husband. I wrote letters to him sometimes…I told God that I knew He knew what I wanted, and I invited Him to be creative, to write a script that was better than the most romantic movie, to write a best-seller, to blow my mind, to surprise me…
The first time I met Abraham was on a day in mid-April, 2014. At the time I was attending the church La Unión Cristiana in Viña del Mar, Chile, where I was living during that time. Abraham was participating in a ministry at the church that welcomed international students who came to stay in the city for a season.
We approached a group of people, who were standing/sitting in a circle. A really awful wildfire had started in the city of Valparaiso (the neighboring city) that night, and one of the girls in the group was really worried about the safety of her friend, and asked if someone would be willing to pray for her friend. A young man who was sitting on the ground offered, and started to pray for the city and for her friend specifically. I don’t remember the details of the prayer, but I remember being impressed by the power of it. Up until that point, I had never seen anyone pray with such intensity before.
Following the prayer, the group of us left, the other girls found their ways to the bus stops, etc., and before I knew it, Abraham and I were left alone at the corner. Turns out we were two blocks away from my house, but we didn’t know it then. He accompanied me the rest of the way to my host family’s house, and while we walked there/got there, he told me his testimony, how he came to know Jesus Christ as his Savior. I preferred listening to talking, and I told him as much, and I was riveted by his story.”
The Proposal
“I received a Fulbright grant to be an English Teaching Assistant for a year in Mexico! While I was there, Abraham made plans to visit me in Mexico after Christmas break!
We embarked from the Mexico City airport on our first trip together, to Huatulco, Mexico, located in the Mexican state of Oaxaca on the southern coast of Mexico. We shared our first kiss on the bus ride down, and the whole experience was surreal. We spent 3-4 days on beautiful beaches, taking in the sun, and filling in each other on ways God had been working that just couldn’t be explained over the phone.
After our first full day in Huatulco, a magical day for both of us, while we were walking leisurely back to the town hand-in-hand, we came upon an area where there were lots of flowered trees and other greenery. There was no one around, and the sky was getting dark as it was somewhat late, but the cobblestone path we were on was visible in the light of the lanterns lining the side of it. There was a white gazebo coming up on our left, and Abraham suddenly steered me toward it, guiding me gently. He continued to guide me up the stairs until the two of us were standing in the center of the gazebo, flowers and light all around us. It was then that the “official” proposal came. (I already knew he intended to marry me…he just hadn’t actually posed it to me as a question yet). It was a beautiful moment we shared, in which he explained to me that he didn’t want me to answer right away, and that he would wait for my answer by the time he left Mexico, roughly two months later. He wanted to show me during that time who he was (we only saw each other a couple times in Chile, after all, memorable though they were), what kind of a man he was, what his character was.
Three weeks later, when we were on the bus heading to Mexico City again, I gave him my answer: “Sí quiero casarme contigo,” I told him. “I do want to marry you!” After a few moments we realized that meant we were each other’s fiancé(e) (I love the word in Spanish…prometidos…it’s like saying “promised ones” ☺ ), and we publicly shared the news with everyone (via Facebook of course) before parting ways for a week.”
