You know when you meet two individuals who are clearly made for each other? Well, that is TOTALLY Adam and Katie, and to say that I’m excited to share their Asbury Park engagement session with you all would be a total understatement!
I could not wait to FINALLY give them the biggest hug when we met, AND to photograph in a new place! Belmar Beach, NJ is SO cool friends! If you’ve never been, you should totally visit especially if you’re craving some good music, art, and blue beach waters! The ocean water was so crystal blue and clear there, too!
Adam has actually been vacationing in Belmar, NJ for a while now, and bringing Katie to the same beach has been so special for the two of them! So, it was only fitting that the ocean was the backdrop for their session since Adam asked Katie to spend the rest of her life with him on a beach in California! How sweet!?
Since they knew the area so well, I was so grateful to them for recommending some of the best places on the boardwalk! We started their session by walking around on the boards, taking photos in front of murals, in addition to the iconic casino and carousel!
Then we spent the rest of our time together on the beach! My absolute FAVORITE! I was telling Katie that I think my new favorite place to shoot is the beach – I could photograph there ALL THE TIME, especially when I’m with a couple as adventurous and loving as her and Adam! They splashed around in the water and climbed up on rocks, barefooted, to make sure we could get the shot! They were such naturals in front of the camera, and totally made my job easy!
I adore these two so much! The love they share is contagious, and I cannot wait for their spring wedding at the Manufacturers’ Golf and Country Club next year!
How They Met
“I’m originally from California, I went to college in Arizona and then moved out to Pennsylvania in late 2013 for a job opportunity. Not knowing anyone besides the few family members I had out here already, I decided to join Match.com to start dating since I knew this was going to be my new home. As for Adam, he is originally from northern NJ , went to college in Bloomsburg, PA and then moved to Philly a couple years prior to when I moved out here. I have to say that it took quite a few (bad) dates on both our ends until we finally found each other online. Me being somewhat impatient 😉 I was getting tired of the daily matches that they would send me because they were always the same person, or just not my type. SO I took it into my own hands and decided to just search and look through profiles ( crazy I know). Starting at the top with “A” luck had it that Adams screen name was one of the first to pop up! I thought he was cute, so I reached out to him to say hi and the rest is history! We technically wouldn’t have ever met because of our radius restrictions- he lived in the city and I lived in West Chester. Our first date was in Phoenixville and we were going to meet for a drink however it turned into a 7 hour date and we couldn’t stop talking to each other.”
“It happened November 19th 2017. We went back to California for Thanksgiving and since I have family in both Ca and Az, we decided to start our vacation in Ca first. The second day we were there, we met up with one of my old friends at the beach to have brunch. After, I told Adam I wanted to show him a near by beach in Laguna where I always went as a kid. It’s my favorite beach and it always brings back good memories of my family and growing up, so I thought I would share it with him. I honestly had no idea he had planned to propose to me that day and after talking to him about the whole process, it made it even more special to me. Going back to the story, Adam had kept the ring (WITHOUT A BOX) in his pocket the entire time ( we had lunch on a dock! ). Once we made it to the beach, I was talking the entire way down this long hill , Adam kept quiet , but I just figured he was enjoying the view and listening to me ramble on…Once we got down to the beach I went into photographer mode and was taking pictures of us, the beach, etc and then I turn around and he’s on one knee with the ring in his hand. I’m a crier- and for once in my life I couldn’t cry because I was in a state of shock and excitement! After I sad YES! He told me he had called my dad to ask for permission and that we should let everyone know since he tried to keep it a secret. Little did he know my Dad is the worst person to keep a secret and word spread throughout my entire family! So we spent our entire vacation basically celebrating with all my friends and family in California and Arizona. It was so special. I later told Adam, I thought he would have proposed over the summer during one of our beach trips or when we went to Hilton Head in September with his family. He said he wanted to wait until we were with my family because I don’t get to be with them as much and he wanted me to be able to share this moment with them…this was the moment where I started crying.”
