Amy and Jon flew in from Indiana to finish up some wedding planning this week, and I’m so, so, so glad that we were able to schedule their engagement session while they were in town! Amy is a grad student and Jon works with higher education – they were on spring break and the timing worked out perfectly! I remember back to when Amy and I first talked on the phone – we connected instantly, and I learned during our conversation that her and Jon were cat-lovers just like me! So, you can definitely guarantee that we shared stories and pictures of our kitties at their engagement session!

They had chosen the Historic District of Philadelphia for their session, and this was my first time photographing in that part of the city! I loved every minute of it! They both blew me away because they came fully prepared! They had two outfits, Amy had pampered herself and got her hair done, AND she had her engagement ring cleaned, too! (P.S. The beautiful diamond belonged to Amy’s grandmother! You’ll read more about that below!)

The weather forecast had been calling for a wintery mix to arrive right in the middle of their session! Ah! Regardless, Amy and Jon were such troopers, and were up for anything as it started to drizzle and the wind picked up! Jon would keep Amy warm, and it was just the sweetest!! He absolutely adores her! Ironically, they both grew up only two hours from each other in PA, but they didn’t meet until they both ended up in Bloomington, Indiana! How crazy is that?!

Although we would have loved a little warmth and sunshine, we still had so much fun together, and I’m so excited for their wedding at Hotel Monaco in May! Amy tells me that their color scheme is burgundy and rose…EEK!

How They Met

“Jon and I actually met at a party! I had been living in Bloomington for some years when Jon came to town. Josh, a friend of mine from high school was also living in Bloomington at the time. Josh and Jon have a mutual friend Mikhail who introduced them. Josh threw a party for Jon’s birthday to introduce him to people, and one of those people was me! We hit it off right away, went on a date a short time later, and the rest is history!”

How Jon Proposed

“Jon proposed to me on my birthday. He made sure I had a perfect day and took me to my favorite restaurant for dinner.  When we got home he gave me my presents: first some chocolate from this amazing chocolate boutique in Bloomington, then two stuffed animal cats, that look like our real cats, Betsy and Fiona, and finally, he got down on one knee and proposed! (The ring came later, because we put a diamond that belonged to my grandmother into a new setting.”
