Tom and Monica’s engagement session took place around the historic district of Old City in Philadelphia! It was one of the coldest days we had experienced so far this winter season! After the rainy wedding season we had last year, though, I couldn’t have been happier to finally have blue skies and sunshine for their session!
We started off by meeting at Christ Church in Old City, and this is actually where they will be getting married this August! When I saw them, I couldn’t help but give them the biggest hug! Just a few short weeks prior they had officially booked their wedding with me, and I instantly felt a connection with the two of them! Meeting my couples in person is just the best!
After we hugged and realized how cold we were, Monica and Tom took me to the most adorable coffee shop called Old City Coffee to get warmed up! How thoughtful!! We knew that we needed some extra warmth before walking over to the historic district!
Monica and Tom absolutely LOVE the city of Philadelphia, and spend a good amount of time in the city! They especially love the AMAZING food the city offers! So having their engagement session take place where they’ve made so many memories made their session so much more fun!
Also, due to the government shutdown, we had the entire area to ourselves – it actually worked in our favor!
Not once did either of them complain about the cold, and they had every reason to because Monica was wearing a dress! You cannot even tell in the photos that we were all shivering!
You can immediately tell that the love they share is rare to find! The two of them have been each other’s’ biggest cheerleaders as they’ve navigated all of the changes that come with Tom working full time as a CPA and Monica finishing up her residency in the city. There is no doubt in my mind that their future is full of so many good things to come, especially with their wedding this summer!
After spending time with them, I felt like I got a glimpse into what their wedding day is going to be like! Monica and Tom are so selfless and thoughtful! I just know that their wedding day is going to be full of such celebration and love!
How They Met
“We met at a mutual friend’s wedding. My (Tom’s) friend from high school ended up being Monica’s friend at college, and so we both found ourselves at the same wedding. Although we didn’t see each other during the actual reception, we ended up at the same table during the pizza after party!”
“Monica and I had a day trip planned to Atlantic City last summer to attend a vegan food festival. Since I live in Fairmount and Monica lives in West Chester, she had planned on coming to the city first thing in the morning and then the two of us were to take the train from Philly out to AC.
That morning, I set up the apartment with flowers and played/sang her a song with my guitar prior to retrieving the ring from its hiding spot and popping the question. There were a bunch of unforeseen obstacles that occurred in the minutes leading up to the proposal though!
When Monica arrived at my apartment, I went downstairs to help carry bags up to my 3rd floor unit. Right at that moment, a U-Haul truck sideswiped MY parked car right in front of my apartment.
While that (and a couple other things) tried to distract and derail our plan as we were very pressed for time, I still managed to fit the proposal into the chaos! Right after she said yes, we took a second to process the moment and then headed to the train station.”
